The president of Iran published a letter to the American people on Wednesday. It held a message that Washington would prefer to keep hidden.

“The Iranian people harbor no enmity toward other nations, including the people of America… portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical reality nor with present-day historical facts,” Masoud Pezeshkian wrote. The neocon war derives from “the need to manufacture an enemy… maintain military dominance, sustain the arms industry, and control strategic markets,” he added.

The letter also detailed years of U.S. aggression toward the Islamic Republic, which has planted “seeds of resentment,” even though “since the founding of the United States, [Iran] has never initiated a war.”

Even if you think Pezeshkian deserves the same fate as Ali Khamenei, a primary takeaway from this story is that America’s terrorist “enemies” do not hate our country because of our freedoms. They chant “Death to America” because of how we treat them. Those who insist otherwise are interventionist propagandists.
