Massive Explosion Rocks Texas Oil Refinery
A massive explosion ripped through the Valero refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, on Monday, sending a towering column of black smoke over the city and triggering an emergency response across Jefferson County.
The blast erupted inside the sprawling Gulf Coast facility shortly after midday, shaking nearby and distant neighborhoods and prompting officials to warn residents to stay indoors. Fire crews and industrial hazmat teams immediately rushed to begin containment efforts.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown, a fire department spokesperson told 12News NBC, and police have miraculously reported zero injuries. The Port Arthur refinery is one of the ten largest refineries in the United States, producing 435,000 barrels of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel per day.
