Trump’s Meeting With Senate Republicans Went off the Rails
Tensions between Donald Trump and Senate Republicans have been high for years. As John Thune allegedly confessed last week, many “conservative” lawmakers simply hate the president. Their rage reached a breaking point yesterday.
Trump’s Wednesday appearance at the Senate GOP lunch was “a total cluster fuck,” a source told Semafor. The meeting reportedly featured a screaming match between Trump and Bill Cassidy over Iran, plus the president pushing the lawmakers to fight harder to pass the SAVE Act. Trump admitted afterwards that he “[does not] like a few people [in the party], but that’s okay.”
The Cassidy episode is particularly noteworthy. As an aggressive supporter of the foreign Israeli government, the Louisiana senator is furious that Trump is trying to end the Iran War. Sources say he demanded the White House brief Congress on its latest dealings with the Iranians, which war hawks “coincidentally” did not insist on when the conflict began. Funny how that works.
